Foundation Focus: The Orchard School
As part of the One Albion in Schools programme, The Albion Foundation and The Orchard School have worked in partnership for the past seven years.
The One Albion in Schools programme sees Foundation members of staff deployed into various Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools across Sandwell and Dudley to help engage and support sporting activities within the respective schools.
The Foundation run a range of lessons and activities in the school ranging from breakfast clubs, lunch time clubs to after school clubs and P.E lessons all designed to engage pupils with the severest disabilities. The Foundation’s expertise in running effective activities help to raise self-esteem and promote sports participation throughout the school.
The department works with approximately 600 school children every week to help raise their aspirations in life and bring a smile to their face.
Paul Glover, Disability Development Manager, said “Orchard School have really embraced the Foundation since we have begun working with them. The smiles on the kids’ faces when they see our members of staff are priceless and makes our job worthwhile.”
“It gives the children a much wider access to the sporting curriculum. They are a team of staff that understand disabilities so they utilise their sports background to understand the different needs of the children” Diane Ellingham, Head Teacher, The Orchard School.
